In the case of minimum SG the sphere is about to leave the bottom and hence the net upward force calculated on it in the fig should be equal to its weight which is (VOL.)(density)(g).
Solving we get (SG)min = 0.7
Hence, for the sphere to stay in equilibrium at the bottom SG > 0.7

Exact answer needs an integration but i have taken an approximation here which does not affect the correct result.Replace the part of the sphere outside the whole by a flat surface and and still consider its volume as that of the original sphere.
