Consider a straight line with unit-spaced markings. A drunk person is performing a random walk on this line: this means that at any marking, he can either go to the next or the previous marking with equal probability. (Of course, he moves only one unit at a time)
At marking 3 is the person's home while at marking -2 is a pit. The person starts his walk from marking 0. What is the probability that the person reaches home before falling into the pit?
