TENSION MEIN HO KYA? Part-3 PDF

As of today, you guys still have around twenty more weeks with you before the JEE exam. If you see the glass as half empty, there’s very little time left. For the ones who would rather say the glass is half full, twenty weeks is a good amount of time in which a lot can be done, provided that you manage this remaining time effectively. We talk about how to do it in this article.

  • Your first job is to do a thorough status check. Make a rough status chart (for each subject). In this chart, list all the topics that need to be covered for the JEE. Against each topic, write how comfortable you are in that topic. Assign a number scale, say 1-10, where “1” would mean you haven’t studied the topic at all while “10” would imply you are absolutely confident about each and everything in that topic. (You got the general idea!)
  • Given that you make this chart more or less accurately, you can now use the following rule-of-thumb: You are good enough in topics where your status is more than 7; less than (or equal to) 7 means you need to work harder for the corresponding topics.
  • Make a new “To Do” list of all such topics for which you still need to work, in order of their relative importance (you must refer to someone reliable to decide this order, say your teachers). For example, if we talk about chemistry, aldehydes and ketones in organic chemistry will be much higher in priority than, say, extraction processes in inorganic chemistry.
  • If your status is extremely low in a certain topic, you should try to give it a higher priority in the “To Do” list even if it is low in relative importance.
  • Once you make this “To Do” list, assign a certain number of days to each topic and start working! To decide how much time to give to which topic, you might have to refer to someone reliable again. In general, you should aim to cover this complete list in around 8~10 weeks time.
  • As you go along covering these low-status topics, don’t loose touch of those in which you already have a good status. For this purpose, you should keep on practicing tests regularly on these topics.
  • By the end of this exercise, you should still have around two months left. All the 12th standard students amongst you can then focus more on their Boards while 12th pass students can keep on practicing further. By all means, each one of you must attempt to finish the entire syllabus at least once by January end.

This is just a suggestion from our side and by no means do you have to follow it exactly. It has been written with the purpose of giving you a general idea on how you can work out your own scheme to manage whatever time’s still left.

Remember one thing: time is a really (really!) precious resource, both before and during the exam. But it is a resource that must be tamed, that must be managed properly. It is like a sword. Wield it one way, and you might injure yourself; wield it another way, and you might find yourself in IIT!

Best of luck!

My problem is, I'm finding it difficult to concentrate. I can't focus on a topic because I might be singing a song while studying. In essence, I'm restless. Can't "sit in".

Any tips for this problem ? Would be great to see this problem acknowledged in the next post in this series.
